With 38 museums, the capital of Malaga is the city with the highest density of museums in its historic centre, although these spaces are also found throughout the rest of the city.

Malaga’s Picasso Museum and Picasso Foundation - Birthplace Museum

The Buenavista Palace houses the Picasso Museum in Malaga. It is home to a permanent collection that covers eight decades of work by Pablo Picasso together with temporary exhibitions that help deepen the knowledge of his artistic context.

Furthermore, in the Plaza de la Merced you will find the Birthplace Museum, the place where Picasso was born.

Municipal Heritage Museum (MUPAM)

This space houses a selection of items of artistic and historic interest from the Municipal Heritage collection. These include paintings, sculptures and prints from artists such as Picasso and Carlos Haes.

Malaga’s Carmen Thyssen Museum

Located in the Palace of Villalón, this museum houses the most complete display of 19th century Andalusian painting in Spain today. The collection, composed of 230 works from the 19th and early 20th centuries, is divided into four routes: Old Masters; Romantic Landscape and Costumbrism; Précieuses and Naturalist Painting; and Fin de Siècle.

Centre Pompidou Malaga

This space offers a journey through 20th and 21st century art, with selected works from the Centre Pompidou’s outstanding collection, which is one of the two most important modern and contemporary art collections in the world.

Collection of the Russian Museum St. Petersburg/Malaga

The Tabacalera building, erected in the 1920s, houses the Collection of the Russian Museum St. Petersburg/Malaga which has a series of long-term exhibitions, and a program of temporary exhibitions covering the complex and fascinating history of Russian art.
