Malaga gets dressed for Christmas in decorative lights, wicker figures, thousands hollies and a special atmosphere that you can feel on the streets as you do your Christmas shopping or take a stroll by the city’s Historical Centre.

From six in the afternoon the millions of lights switch on to form the exclusive designs which illuminate the major streets of the city.

You can begin your nocturnal stroll in Plaza del General Torrijos where you will see luminous lights forming garlands. Continue your walk to Coracha and you will observe the three wicker camels on display there. Going along the Park and Plaza de la Marina and you will pass the caramels and gift boxes that illuminate the route. Don’t forget to stop half-way long the way and admire the new illumination of the facade of the City council.

To the other side of the avenue, in the Paseo de los Curas, rustic wicker musical notes are hung. You can also pass below zig-zag stars with white, pink and burgandy tails, when walking by the Alameda Principal, and the roundabout at Marques de Larios, where you can also see a marvellous Nativity Scene. In Larios Street and Granada Street you can see arcs of light with flowers and angels with trumpets on each side.

From here walking towards the Plaza del Obispo you can observe the back gardens of the Cathedral with lights which they heighten the magnitude of “the Manquita”, as this monument with a missing tower is known. Continue your walk until you reach Plaza de la Merced where the garlands light up the square where Picasso was born. To finish your stroll keep going until you approach until the gardens of the Santuario de la Victoria and admire the special illumination of this church built in commemoration of reconquest of the city by the Catholic Kings.
