New Years Eve is a very special date in Malaga where the great range of possibilities the city offers means there is something for everyone’s taste in the great end of year celebrations. Simplest for the visitor is to book a hotel package for this special night in which they can they enjoy a gala dinner and after dinner celebrations which go on until the early hours of the morning. However, if you prefer more urban surroundings, and thanks to the good temperatures which Malaga often has during the festive period, you can take to the streets to enjoy the festive atmosphere along with the thousands of other people who throng the city centre on New Years Eve. Plaza de la Constitucion is the main stage where the public celebrations of the last night of 2008 take place. After listening to the 12 chimes of the bell at midnight, and if it you are able, eating the traditional 12 grapes for good fortune in the coming year, one with each ring of the bell, enjoy the multi-media show and orchestra. Dancing is assured. City centre bars and pubs are open until dawn, each one with its own particular atmosphere but all with one thing in common, to give a joyous welcome to the New Year. If you get hunger pangs late at night, you can always try some of the fast food restaurants that will be open, and if you feel hungry as morning approaches, you should try the traditional Malaga breakfast of “churros” with hot chocolate in the café bars that open their doors at this hour.
